Residual Solvent

Residual Solvent

Solvents are frequently used to extract the cannabinoids from the cannabis plant, and are commonly used in downstream processing activities. Solvent residues from equipment cleaning processes can also be transferred to and contaminate production batches.  Analysis for residual solvents is performed using full evaporative technique (FET) headspace sample delivery, gas chromatographic (GC) compound separation, and mass spectrometric (MS) peak detection and mass spectral confirmation against the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Mass Spectral Database, Revision 2017. Chromatographic and mass spectral data are processed by quantitatively comparing the analytical peak areas against calibration curves prepared from certified reference standards.
